GP surgeries do not provide a minor injuries service.
If you have a minor injury you should either attend the Accident and Emergency department at Torbay Hospital, or the Minor Injuries Unit at Newton Abbot, Totnes or Dawlish Community Hospitals. You see can see the current live WAITING TIMES at each of these units by clicking here.
Minor injuries include things like:
Torbay Hospital’s Emergency Department (A&E) can be a busy place. If you have a minor injury or condition which you feel needs medical attention, but is not an emergency, it may be quicker to be seen at one of our Minor Injuries Units (MIU).
For examples of the type of injuries and conditions best treated at MIUs please see our Minor Injuries Units page. This page also includes information on location, opening times, x-ray availability, as well as those injuries and conditions that cannot be treated at MIUs. Alternatively, you can visit NHS Choices’ A-Z of health conditions and treatments.
If you’re not sure which service is best for you please phone 111 for guidance.
Please be aware the waiting times and number of waiting patients displayed is updated every five minutes and may have changed by the time you arrive at the unit.
If your injury is not serious, you can get help from a minor injuries unit or urgent care centre, rather than going to an A&E department. This will allow A&E staff to concentrate on people with serious, life-threatening conditions and will save you a potentially long wait.

We have been working closely with Mayfield Medical Centre just down the road for over a year now, in order to ensure the long-term sustainability of General Practice in this area. We share a Paramedic who helps with visits, a Pharmacist, a Practice Manager as well as some GP, Nurse and administrative resources. Hurrah! We are now proposing a formal merger.
