General Info

To Order a Repeat Prescription
For patients on regular medication a repeat prescription slip will be attached to each prescription.
When a further prescription is needed, please bring or send the slip to reception indicating which items are required with a tick, or simply e-mail the request to us. Please click here for the repeat prescription page. Please allow 48 working hours before collection. Unless you instruct us otherwise, we will send your prescription to the Pharmacy on Foxhole Road. We will happily return the prescription by post if you send a stamped addressed envelope. All patients on repeat prescriptions should see the Doctor at least annually for reviews.
Please do not ask for repeat prescriptions by phone unless absolutely necessary as this can lead to errors and is not an effective use of the resources we have available.

Test Results.
Please phone for results after 11am. Sometimes our administration staff are able to give results, but if not they will make arrangements for a Nurse or Doctor to contact you.

Confidentiality.
We can assure you that anything in your medical records and anything that you discuss with our staff is treated as confidential. This means that you can tell others about your visit, but we won’t.
The only reason why we might have to consider passing on confidential information without your permission would be to protect you, or someone else, from very serious harm. We would always try to discuss this with you first.

Disabled Access.
We have developed our surgery with this very much in mind
The ground floor has disabled toilets. If you find getting up stairs difficult, please tell our reception staff when you book your appointment so they can ensure you are seen on the ground floor. The staff have been trained in vision and hearing impaired awareness. There is a car park adjac
ent to the surgery with a disabled space.

District Nursing Team.                                                                   The District Nursing Service provides Acute, Chronic and Palliative Nursing Care, specialist assessments, support and advice to “housebound” patients and their families and carers. A continuous programme of training and development promotes quality care that utilises evidence based practice. The team consists of 3 Community Staff Nurses, 1 District Nurse Specialist Practitioner, 1 Health Care Assistant (level 3) and a Phlebotomist. Referrals to the District Nursing service can be made through the GP surgery.

Peninsula Medical School Students.
We are delighted to be involved in
training the next generation of Doctors studying at the Peninsula Medical School. You may be asked to see a Student Doctor prior to seeing a GP. We very much appreciate this. If you prefer not to see a Student then simply inform reception - this will not effect your GP consultation in any way.             Click here to find out more about the Peninsula Medical School.

Practice Complaints Procedure.
This has been set up to deal with any comments and complaints about the services we provide. Our Practice Manager, Mrs Michelle Garnham, will give you further information. Phone 556403.

Newsletter.
Click here for the latest edition of this, or if you’d like us to e-mail you a copy as soon as it has been written.

Chemists.
Chemists are open locally until 6pm (Foxhole), 6.30pm (Lloyds), 8pm (Sainsbury's @ Paignton and @ The Willows in Torquay) or 10pm (Boots @ The Willows) on Monday to Saturdays and on Sundays and Bank Holidays from 12 noon - 1 p.m. Details of opening are available at the Practice, a local Chemist's window, from the Police or in a local newspaper.

Pharmacy Based Minor Ailments Scheme.
Our local pharmacist Dany & his team are able to assess you if you have the ‘flu, a sore throat, a cough, sinusitis or other similar symptoms. If they feel you need to see a GP then they will arrange an appointment with us on your behalf. Other Pharmacies may offer a similar service.

Medicines Management Collaborative.
We are still particularly looking at a close review of medication, wastage and unused prescriptions, synchronising prescriptions and involvement with the local Pharmacy.
We run a "Repeat Dispensing Scheme." This gives patients who are on stable regular medications to have a medical review, then to receive 6 or 12 months worth of prescriptions. We hope this will make the provision of Repeat Medications easier to access.
If you have any old or unwanted medicines in your cupboard, why not have a clear-out and bring them along to us so that we can dispose of them safely.

New Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes Groups.
Any patients who have become Diabetic are now able to access "Group Diabetes Workshops" based at Clennon Valley and run by a Diabetic Specialist Nurse, Podiatrist, Dietician, Exercise Specialist, and Health Psychologist. This will enable a large amount of information to be shared within a group setting and has proved to be a very valuable service. This service has now been extended to include the diagnosis of "Pre-Diabetes" otherwise known as Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) or Impaired Fasting Glycaemia (IFG). Patients with these conditions are able to attend a one-off group session.

"Paignton North" group of GP's.
We are linked with other surgeries in this area - Bishop's Place, Grosvenor Road, Pembroke House, Dr Slomka & Dr Bridge through this PCT initiative. Representatives from the surgeries meet regularly to improve the services we can offer our patients. Several new initiatives have been implemented, especially with regard to those most vulnerable in our community. We are currently looking at the way we use our local hospital services & hope to be able to make some services more available within Paignton itself. Watch this space!

Team Based Working Project.
We continue to work along this philosophy. This has helped reinforce the necessity to meet together to discuss and review what we are doing. You will probably be aware that we close the surgery over two lunchtimes each month, and for one afternoon per quarter entitled "Rainbow Development" in order to do this. We thank patients for their understanding and trust that it does not cause too much inconvenience.

Computer in the Waiting Room.
This is a free service. All you have to do is register at reception and then just check in every time you wish to use it. You can practice word processing & improve your ability to navigate around the internet.

Freedom of Information.
This practice operates in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000. If you require further information about our compliance with these acts then please enquire at the reception desk. If you need information about access to your medical records then please ask your GP or speak to the Practice Manager.
